Well hello!
I’m Ren Haywood and I perform classic works and generally study music, stories and other topics prior to 1600. I am a step-mother to 1 amazing kiddo, an obnoxiously loud but cuddly cat and married to the love of my life.
Who is Solveig?
I am a vocalist, composer, writer and sharer of stories from before the year 1600. If it is in print it is fair game.
Why Solveig?
I use Solveig Bjarnardottir as a “stage name” to separate this educational work from my professional work and it is a more medieval sounding name.
What is the SCA you keep talking about?
The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an international non-profit volunteer educational organization. The SCA is devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat, culture, and employing knowledge of history to enrich the lives of participants through events, demonstrations, and other educational presentations and activities. What has she done in the SCA?
I first joined the SCA in 2010. I had a journey of just sitting back and dressing up. I went through years of looking for who I wanted to be. From fighting to fencing and finally back to my roots of performance.
Where is she from?
The Barony of Stonemarche ( also known as New Hampshire) is her home.
Why do you work with them?
It gives me a place to share my love of music, teaching and performance and allows me to teach just for the joy of teaching. Again this is all volunteer. Even my time and maintenance of this site.
Why?
I did two undergraduates. One in Vocal Performance and one in Music Education. Music is my life. If there is a song, I want to learn it. If there is an instrument, I need to own it and learn to play it. My time is purely donated, my work shared here in hopes it could be of entertainment or research help to any who stumble on it. I want music to be a safe place for any who encounter it. This is my hobby.
Can I hire you to teach or perform?
No. This is not a for profit endeavor. If the setting is educational I may be able to volunteer my time and service to help you.
